A Month of Favorites ~ 5 Favorite Things to do when I'm not Reading

A Month of Favorites is hosted by Girlxoxo, Traveling with T & Estella's Revenge.

Hey all! Today's topic is 5 Favorite LifeHacks, or 5 Favorite {Insert Something Non-Bookish}, so I decided to go with the latter. I really couldn't think of anything else, since I rarely do anything BUT read. There are times I do though, and I only do a few other things, so here's what I'm doing when I'm not reading ~

5 ~ Surfing the Web

While most of my favorite haunts are book related, there are sites online that I visit daily that aren't, including Facebook (just to keep up with a friend or two, otherwise I really don't like it), Swap-Bot (more on that below), Yahoo Sports & Pinterest. Not much, when you look at it that way, but the rest of my time is spent on bookish sites.

4 ~ Watching TV

We actually watch very little TV and plan on getting rid of our DirecTv next month when our contract is up. The main thing we watch TV for is sports. We are big Football (Steelers ~ me, Bucs ~ Him) & Baseball (Nationals.... were Rays fans but since they got rid of their manager and things are going downhill for them, I think we've made the jump just to the Nats, though it won't be the same without Laroache) fans, and love to watch our sports. We're going to miss DirecTv for that, but can't keep putting so much money into it for just Football & Baseball. Besides sports, we watch just a few things including ~ Gotham, Scorpion, NCIS, NCIS NOLA, Ground Floor, & Big Bang Theory.

3 ~ Swapping on Swap-Bot

This actually ties in with reading, some, because I run a bookish group on Swap-Bot. But I've enjoyed Swap-Bot in the past year plus that I've been there. Swap-Bot is a swapping site. You can swap anything and everything, though it's mainly a crafty type place, which is why I really only swap in my own groups now, I'm not a craft person. For our group, we'll do swaps about what we've been reading, but other swaps I do include mainly letter swaps. It's a fun place to hang out and get lots of fun mail.

2 ~ Write to my Pen Pals

I've been palling on and off for over 25 years. I started writing to friends after camp and then after I was moved from PA to FL. I started looking online for pals around 1998 and I've been writing my pals off and on ever since. As you may be able to tell from my blog, I am LONG WINDED and so I like to write LONG LETTERS. For some pen pallers out there, they write one of those little decorative pieces of paper and send it off and that's a letter to them. UGH. I learned VERY quickly that that's not the type of pal that I am. I'm a LONG letter pal. My shortest letters are my intro and are about 7 pages, TYPED. My typical letters to a regular pal are 10-15 pages typed, usually with small print and little to no margins. I've been known to write MUCH more though. Nowadays, I only write a few people, because I'm spending all my time reading, but I do love the pals that I still write to. Writing and sharing everything and getting a wonderful long letter back is awesome! :)

1 ~ Play Video Games

I thought about doing my topic just on my 5 favorite video games, but changed it to this instead. So, I still have to include video games, because it's what I love to do most, after reading. I've always been a gamer. I remember playing Goonies and Super Mario as a kid. I've had tons of different systems (most of which I wish I still had). Right now, we have a Playstation 2 & Playstation 3, an Xbox360 and a Wii. We WANT a PlayStation 4, but we can't get one right now. We're HOPING next year, or at the latest the year after. We JUST got our PS3 last year, so getting the PS4 will hopefully be sooner.

I love a variety of games, from puzzle adventure to action. I actually love games that make you think, which seems to be the opposite of most people. I love games that allow you to create as well, so I love my GTAV Race Creator, of which I've made 113 races! Crazy ones too. :) I'm always on the hunt for great new games that I'll love, even if they do take me away from reading. It's good to get a break, sometimes, and play some video games. :)

My 5 Favorite Video Games are ~

5 Games I can't WAIT to play (that I haven't, most not released) ~

    1. It fun! :) If you join up, let me know, and I'll be glad to send you an invite to my group ~ Carpe Librum. There are other book groups on there bigger than mine, but ours is the most active (10-20 swaps a month) and ours is the most strict when it comes to members. The only negative about SB is there are a LOT of people there who flake out on swaps, just to get free stuff, especially at this time of year. I'm VERY careful with my swaps, but it's fun with trusted swappers.

    1. It is fun. It can be a pain as well, there are tons of flakers who sign up for things just to get things, and don't send out, but as long as you are careful about what swaps you join, it can be really great, and it's so fun to get so much mail. :) Let me know if you join, and I'll be glad to send you an invite to my book group.

  3. So I like videogames as well! My brother just got me a 2ds for my birthday a few weeks ago- and I STILL have the original Nintendo in my room (and the games STILL play!)

    1. Oh that's AWESOME you have an original Nintendo. I wish I had all the consoles I've lost over the years, though I'm sure it would be so strange to play such old games. We laugh at how bad San Andreas looks from just 10 years ago. Videogames are awesome!! :D

  4. Writing to pen pals is such a lovely thing to do. I used to all the time, and it makes me very nostalgic for the days before all our techy ways to communicate. Not that I don't like a text, or an email, but nothing compares to getting a real, handwritten note.

  5. We're Steelers fans at our house too. I don't know if that's good or bad.

  6. I am also a gamer and I love Kingdom Hearts! I own Portal and Portal 2, but haven't played them yet. I like the idea of pen pals, but never really looked into it. I have a friend from high school which I e-mail now and then, almost like a pen pal.
This was a fun post to read!
