TBR List ~ April Review ~ Almost Dead

The To Be Read Meme is hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life. Click for more info!

Today is Dewey's!! Check back with me through the day to see my progress. I'm aiming for the full 24 hours again, and have a goal of 10 books! We'll see if I can do it! :)

At the beginning of March, I posted 3 books I was interested in reading, for you all to pick ONE for me to read and review. It was a close one this time, a 3 way tie until just before the last day.

The book chosen for me was ~

All the books I had for this month for you to choose for me were from series that I have been reading. The books were all the next ones that I needed to get to and were the 2nd, 3rd and 5th in their respective series. The book that was 5th was the one chosen for me.

Let me premise this by saying, I did enjoy the book. This series isn't my favorite series all around (other wise I would have read it when it first came out) but it's an ok enough series that I've decided to keep with it for the time being. The previous book ended up on a really big cliffhanger, so I did want to see what happened next.

The series is about Lizzy Gardner who is a private detective and the two girls who work with her ~ Haley & Kitally. In this book, Lizzy is going through her own private hell, as she and her guests were attacked on her wedding day and now her fiance lays in a coma. But life for Lizzy has to continue on and she's contacted by a woman who swears that her group of friends, a group of bullies, are being hunted down and killed. The police don't believe her, and neither does Lizzy, at first.

The killings and the killer were quite interesting this time around. I definitely enjoyed that part of the story along with what Haley was doing. Haley, in the other books, has made herself a superhero for the weak who are taken advantage of, and she takes the law into her own hands. It's definitely different and I can't help but cheer for her.

My least favorite parts of the whole series is Lizzy's sister. I can't stand the woman, and it was worse this time with the sister taking yet more abuse from her husband. Luckily, she was only in this one twice, but they were both pretty bad scenes, so I didn't like that at all. I'm hoping that Haley's kind of justice prevails there at some point.

It was also hard for me because I've sat by my Hubby's bed one too many times after He's recovered from medical issues, once of which He was in a medically induced coma for a few days. So that part of the book was emotional and hard for me to read.

The end was satisfying though and I do look forward to more of these and seeing what happens next.

Thanks for the pick!!

  2. This sounds pretty intriguing, Karsyn. And I believe I have #1 in this series on my shelf. Usually I like when I have a more personal connection to a book but in your case, I'm not sure if I'd have liked it. I am glad that you enjoyed continuing the series and will continue it. And maybe next month's read will really knock your socks off! :)
