Dewey's 24 Hr RaT ~ Wrap-Up

 photo dewey-300x300_zps5f467a5a.jpg

Another Dewey's has come and gone. It was a fun one. I didn't meet my goal of 10 books. I guess 8 is all I can get done in 24 hours, but that's not too shabby! :) I did meet my other goals, so yay for that! :)

GOALS

My goals for Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon ~
  • Read at least TEN (10) books ~ Only 8 Completed
  • Read at least 1 author requested / NetGalley book ~ Completed
    • The Tournament by Matthew Reilly
  • Read at least 1 book from my 365 Days of YA challenge ~ Completed
    • Forged by Erin Bowman
  • Do any Challenges that appeal to me, even if done late ~ Completed 2
  • Have Fun! ~ Completed! :)

End of Event Meme:

Which hour was most daunting for you?
Around 2 am, so hour 17-18. I didn't sleep well last night (I rarely do) so I was REALLY sleepy since 1-2 is my normal bed time. I listened to an audiobook, rested my eyes (but didn't fall asleep) for 15 minutes and got recharged. :)

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Depends on the reader, definitely lots of action, something to keep the plot moving along is what I like best.

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
Nope

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
It's a well run machine, so everything is good. :)

How many books did you read?
8

What were the names of the books you read?
see below

Which book did you enjoy most?
None really WOWed me this time around, so I suppose I liked Forged the best, since it wrapped up the series, but Jeff Probst's Survivor Middle Grade trilogy was enjoyable as well.

Which did you enjoy least?
Floors by Patrick Carman ~ just wasn't doing it for me.

If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Wasn't one this time, but was last time, and I'd say listen to short audiobooks while cheering, or focus on only cheering and not reading because it's a TON of work to do both.

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I will definitely join as a reader again, and I will likely do cheering again sometime as well, I just wasn't up for it this time.

Dewey's 24 Hr RaT ~ Hour 21 Update

 photo dewey-300x300_zps5f467a5a.jpg

This Read-a-Thon I've focused on reading, I haven't really been interacting at all. None of the challenges appealed to me, but then I saw this one, so I thought I'd go ahead and answer while I'm listening to my audiobook. Not sure if this means for the full year or just since the beginning of the year, so I'm going to choose to do just the beginning of the year ~ these will be my Best of from 2015. So far in 2015, I have completed 129 books (well, lets round to 130 with this one), so hopefully I can easily figure out my best of best, though I may not be able to do just ONE book. :)

Dewey's 24 Hr RaT ~ Mid-Event Update

 photo dewey-300x300_zps5f467a5a.jpg

Hi All!!

How is everyone's Read-a-Thon going? Having a good time?

I haven't been socializing as much as I have in the past, it's been just about the books for me this time around, this is my first time updating since I started as well.

I flew through my first 3 books, my 4th is taking me a bit longer as my Hubby is home and He distracts me tons. LOL! I'll get back to more after He goes to bed.

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now?
Currently I am reading The Tournament by Matthew Reilly. It's a bit of a different type book for me. I love Reilly, but this is a book different from his norm. It's not awful, it's just a bit wordy. I'm 30% through it, and I hoped to have it done before 10 tonight for it to count towards my GR Challenge this week, we'll see if I get it there.

2. How many books have you read so far?
I've completed 3 ~ see below. :)

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I'm not really sure, I'm not sure what direction I am going to go in next. I guess I'm looking forward to I am the Traitor by Allen Zadoff.

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Just my Hubby. I deal with Him with love. :) It was quiet until after He got home at 4, and it's been overall ok since, but there have been interruptions with Him telling me the (bad) baseball score, dinner and some computer issues. I'll get a lot more done after He goes to bed. :) Other than that, it's just been me and books.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
Nothing. I kind of wish I hadn't started this Reilly. He's really easy to read, and this one is no different but it's, I don't know, just different than the rest of his stuff. I can't tell if I'm lagging because of the book, or the distractions. I've been with this one off and on for 2 hours and am only at 30%.

Dewey's 24 Hr Read-a-Thon ~ Kickoff

 photo dewey-300x300_zps5f467a5a.jpg

It's DEWEY time!! I am up and about already, ready to go. Hubby is off to work, so I have 9 hours on my own to read before He gets home. The Opening questions are up already, so let me go ahead and get those answered!! :)

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I am in North Carolina. We've been here 3 years in May.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Long time readers of my blog know I'm I'm not a pre-planner. I am a Fly-By-er. That being said, I DO have a rather extensive TBR pile (see below) to choose from. This is because I'm doing a GoodReads Challenge (in NRBC) which consists of spelling out words, using titles, authors and main character names. For this challenge, we've been doing colors. Our word changes at 10pm my time, so I've picked out books that cover this weeks word (Granite Gray) as well as the word that starts tonight (Pink Flamingo). See below for my rather long TBR list. I won't get to them all, of course, but I wanted a lot of options, though I still may stray. As for the question ~ I'm most looking forward to A New Hope by Robyn Carr and Forged by Erin Bowman.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Is this a trick question?! ALL of them!! I'm definitely a junk food person. I don't agree with a lot of peoples assessments of not doing ALL junk and doing something healthy. Nope. If you are used to all junk, all junk definitely doesn't bother you. No healthy crap here. :) I have Hostess Donuts for breakfast. Snacks for the day include ~ Skittles (minus the green ones, damn them for getting rid of LIME, the best Skittles flavor ever), Smores Goldfish, Brownies and Oreos. Alfredo for lunch and don't know what for dinner, something quick, probably pizza if Hubby remembers to grab it, if not than chicken strips and tater tots. :) And of course, lots and lots of Mountain Dew! :)

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
HI! I'm Karsyn, in my mid 30s, deeply in love with and married to my high school best friend. I LOVE to read, obviously, and am blessed with a ton of time to read. I also love to write LONG LONG letters to my pen pals (15+ typed pages) and play video games. I built my first gaming PC in Feb and I love it so much! My Precious Kindle is never far from my side and I recently became an audiobook fan. I read a variety of genres and really don't like to box myself in when it comes to genres. It's easier to say what I WON'T read, which is ~ chick-lit (if shopping is involved, no thank you), New Adult (OMG gag me now, I've only read one New Adult book I liked, it HAS to have tons of action or I won't read it), religious stuff, and Western. I'm all about action and suspense in my books for the most part. My most favorite book EVER is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

5) If you participated in the last RaT, what’s 1 thing you’ll do different today?
Same stuff as last time, a variety of books I've been looking forward to, and short audiobooks, rather than when I tried a long one my first time around. Not smart! :) This time I decided not to cheer, I just wasn't up for it, so I'm going to focus on reading and only post occasionally. I'm a new post each time person. I definitely don't like doing one long post.
