Bout of Books 25 - Day 3

Just like Twitter, I hate "emoji" or any kind of chat speak. We do not have cell phones (no, we're not barbaric - we have no need or want of them) and even if we did, I'd never ever use chat speak. Putting in a smilie face is the extent of my emoji / chat speak. So, no challenge for me today.

Yesterday was a lighter day of reading. We've never figured out why, but I don't read when my Hubby is here, even when He's doing His own thing. I didn't read during the day at all yesterday, just some before going to bed in the early morning and before bed last night. Still, got two books read, so can't complain!

Bout of Books 25 - Sign Up

It's that time of year again, time for Bout of Books 25. I'm signing up!

After spending my April writing (my first time ever, writing creatively, I joined Camp NaNoWriMo and wrote over 60k words) I'm ready for a week of reading! Not sure what I'm going to read for the week, but I have a few books in mind so far.

Who is joining me? Let me know if you have a blog and I will follow you!

Camp NaNoWriMo Wrap Up

Camp NaNoWriMo is Complete

It was a crazy month. I've never thought I would write anything and here I am, exactly two months (I think, I might be off by a day or two) after I wrote for the initial prompt. It's been so super crazy!

I knew I had the capacity to write 50k in a month, words are easy, and if it was letters to my penpals then I probably would have done it even sooner, though getting through 50k in less than 20 days is pretty good I think. It wasn't the words I was worried about, it was the ideas. I always said I wouldn't write because I lack imagination for it.

While I still find that true, I easily found the imagination for my work and, except for a missing point or two, it went so well for the month. But my main story BOOK wasn't all I wrote for. In total, I wrote 54,139 words for my main WIP, bringing the full book word count to 68,780 words. For those who don't know how much that would be in book form, it's roughly 170 pages. It sure seems longer when I read it. But still, not bad for a first attempt and I still have a lot of editing to do - only the first 3 chapters are edited. If I hadn't edited as much as I did, my word total would have been probably around 1-2k more, but I wanted to edit when I wasn't quite up to writing.

In addition to that, I wrote for two others. One day, the last chapter of what would be a prequel came to me and I wrote that - 1513 words. Then on the last day of Camp, I wanted to write a lot but didn't have that much more to write for my WIP, so I wrote a chapter and a half of what would be the next book - 5,310 words for that. So yes, three works-in-progress for Camp. I went from not even knowing there were Camps (though I new about regular NaNoWriMo) to writing for 3 separate books during it. CRAZY!! In all, in April, I wrote 60,962 words.

What's next?

My main novel needs editing. I only edited the first 3 chapters (let me know if you'd like to read them, they are available for critique) so the rest (20 or so chapters) need big big edits. That will come over May and June and I HOPE to have the edits done by the end of June. We'll see. Then, Camp is again in July! If edits are done and things are going well, I hope to pick up the 2nd book and continue with that, if I don't in the meantime. :)

Thank you to those of you who followed me through this. It wasn't many, but I appreciate those who did take the time to view my progress. You have my gratitude. If I do anything with this book of mine, I'd be glad to send you a copy, just message me on my email or Goodreads that you would like one and you followed my progress.

For now, Bout of Books is upcoming, and I need some time away from my book to write my penpals. Poor ladies have been so neglected this month. By the small stack of letters I have waiting on me, I might write another 50k in May after all. :)

For Camp NaNoWriMo I am challenging myself to write 50,000 words.

Camp NaNoWriMo - Days 22 - 25

Days 21-25 - There wasn't much to update on, so I decided not to post daily. For these 5 days I mainly did editing, with some writing as well. Took a lot out too though. In all I added just under 2500 words in 5 days, with heavy and light editing all of the days.

Today (26th) I'm going to take completely off (if I can keep from editing) as I've only had 2 full days where I didn't write and/or edit. I think I'm due for one, then I'm gonna write/edit the rest of the month and see if I can leave strong. I only need two more chapters (I think) so once I get those going, it should all wrap up well.

I had my first Critique of my first 3 Chapters, and it wasn't bad. If anyone would like to read the first 3 Chapters (approx 10k - or 7% of the story) feel free to contact me using any means above - email or Goodreads. I'd like honest thoughts on the first 3 Chapters from anyone willing to take a look.

For Camp NaNoWriMo I am challenging myself to write 50,000 words.

Camp NaNoWriMo - Day 21

Day 21 - a quiet day of editing, I removed a lot of words and added 828. So my overall story total fluctuated some. No big edits, just the minor things, fixing grammar and such. It was a quiet day, which I planned to take off completely but I can't just not touch my story it seems, even when I try.

Camp NaNoWriMo - Day 20 - The Day I hit 50,000 words!

Day 20 - I hit my goal!! 50k words in the Month of April!

It only took 17 days of writing / editing. I only took two full days off in April and spent one day writing something else. I knew I'd easily make the goal, I just didn't know I'd do it quite that quickly.

It's been a crazy fun ride, but my WIP isn't done. It still needs a few more chapters, some others fixed and then the first draft will be done. Likely this week.

Taking Sunday off because I want to, though I've already wanted to open Quoll. Maybe I'll just do some editing this morning. We'll see if that leads to writing. :)

Camp NaNoWriMo - Day 19

Day 19 - was the lightest day I've had on actual word count, but a lot was done otherwise.

The book is starting to wrap up. I did what I think will be the last chapter a few days ago and I've been working to fill in the time from what I last wrote to the end. Yesterday after I finished a scene I started on Day 17, I realized that I had to figure the rest out, because all I'm missing now is 3-4 Chapters and I wasn't sure what was going where.

So I printed out two blank calendars and I detailed out my story on them. The story begins May 3rd of 2019 and spans all of May and June. The first 15 chapters were all pretty much set, as far as story and completion goes. After that was when it started getting choppy as I was trying to figure things out.

With everything sorted on the calendars, I could easily see what I had before me and where I needed to find something to stick in. I worked on that most of the evening and the additions I made caused me to change a couple things I already had. Now, it's ready to come together as I start to write the final few chapters and flesh out the 3 that are partial chapters. :)

My blurb (see Day 17) has been mostly well received. I may tweak a few things to, somehow, add in the fact that the book has BDSM in it as well. Not sure how, or I may just add my Author's Note to the blurb, which would be best as I like my blurb overall.

For Camp NaNoWriMo I am challenging myself to write 50,000 words.

Camp NaNoWriMo - Day 18

Day 18 - A good day of writing. With the ending plaguing me, I wrote what could be my ending? Not set in stone, but it's my ending for now. So for the rest of NaNo, I need to work toward getting to that ending, a few other things have to happen first. I did write part of another scene as well and it was enjoyable.

Just over 6k before I hit my goal of 50k. It was easy for me to do, but any actual friends of mine who come here (hi, if you do come by) know that with the way I write, I was never worried about hitting 50k. The words are easy, as long as ideas came and for the most part they did.

When I reach 50k, that doesn't mean I'll stop writing. Likely the story book won't just be done at that point, though it should be close. So I will keep going after I hit 50k. Once the book is completed, then I'll start on edits and that will take a long while. 1 - because I'm a perfectionist and 2 - because I'm just not the best writer. I think I *can* write to a degree but my writing, for most of my life, has always been telling rather than showing. I've been a penpaller all my life, and that lends to telling stories. In high school, long ago, I was on the newspaper staff, once again telling. So I'm a teller, and that reflects. I hope to be able to edit my book to show more. We'll see.

If you didn't see it yesterday, I wrote my blurb and post it. I'm rather fond of it, though I may need to change one or two things depending on if and where I share the book.
