I received the book from NetGalley for my honest review.

If I had 3 words to describe this book, I'd say ~ wild, insane, confusing. I'm not even sure I can explain the book correctly, or easily. But, if you like weirdly crazy books, this is a great read for you. In the end, it was a good and enjoyable book.

Black Chalk is about 6 friends at a London school who come up with a game to play. The game is a series of tasks which each get harder and more humiliating as the game continues on. But the game never finishes and now, 14 years later, the remaining players must finish the game.

This book is told in alternating points of view. The present is told in first person. The narrator is pretty nuts, literally. He uses mnemonics to get through his daily life. It's amusing at first, disturbing as the story goes on, but by then you are already sucked into this strange and convoluted story. The 2nd point of view is of the past and is told in 3rd person. It's a story the narrator is telling us, about what happened 14 years ago.

If you are looking for a story that is out of the box, this is the book for you. It sucks you in from the beginning and you keep asking yourself what the hell is going on, and you keep reading despite the insanity because you can't turn away. Enjoyable and crazy, I recommend the book to anyone with an open mind and fans of psychological thrillers. It's something new and different instead of the same old same old thing that is out there.
