Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon ~ Wrap Up

 photo dewey-300x300_zps5f467a5a.jpg

It's almost 7 and I'm sleepy! I know when it comes to be 8, I'll not be able to sleep, that's just how it is for me. I hope to at least get a LITTLE nap in before football! After my nap (if I sleep) I plan on visiting everyone who links up at Dewey's. I wish I had been able to get to more sites, I look forward to looking through later today.

I didn't hit my goal of 2000 pages, nor did I read as many hours as I did last time (sure seemed like it!) but I completed more books (8) and more pages (1,450) than April (5 books, 1083 pages), so a win all around for me. I had a fun time! Now it's time for the end survey and the last few challenges.

End of Event Survey

Which hour was most daunting for you?
Hmmmmm, I'd say 5:30-6:30am, which would have been hour 23ish. I wanted to read a Kindle book but I couldn't focus and my eyes hurt too much, so I just went to another audiobook to keep going.

Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Mr Penumbra's 24 Hr Bookstore seemed to be a popular choice this year, and it is a good read. I'd say some easy series, like Robyn Carr, JD Robb or similar easy suspense and/or mystery.

Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
I think overall, it's pretty fantastic. I would LOVE to see less photo challenges from hosts, but I know I'm the minority when it comes to that, that I do not post photos because ~ 1 - I don't have a camera of any kind (no, no cell phone either) and 2 - there's been 3 photos taken of me in the past 15 years. I don't do photos. Oh, I do have one suggestion ~ less posts per page, or no videos? Dewey's homepage always takes AGES to load for me, but I know I don't have the best internet. :/

What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
The GoodReads group was REALLY fun!! I enjoyed that a ton.

How many books did you read?

What were the names of the books you read?
Marked, Targeted, Missing in Death, Possession in Death, 15 Minutes, Chaos in Death, Taken in Death & The Sword Thief (see below)

Which book did you enjoy most?
15 Minutes!! 5 stars!!

Which did you enjoy least?
Possession in Death. Wow, what a crazy one!

If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Line up a lot of audiobooks to multitask. If your system is slow, don't try to be a cheerleader. Most of my time was spent waiting on pages to load. For readers, I'd love to see separate posts, not for every little thing, but chunks of posts rather than one large one with tons of gifs/videos. My computer took so long on so many pages, and if I had to translate the page it took even longer. Would LOVE to see more cheerleaders join up, cuz WOW!!

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I will definitely be back in April. I will definitely be a reader. I'll have to think about being a cheerleader, as I didn't really get to enjoy the time with the normal blogs / friends I follow because I was so focused on cheering for my team. I may cheer every other one. If I could think of a good challenge, I would love to host one.

Challenge ~ Best of ~ For this one, I used ONLY new-to-me books, not anything that was a re-read.

Challenge ~ Dream Cast ~ it's funny because we just had this conversation over at the GoodReads Group. I had never thought about it before, but I decided to finally think about it for my favorite book ~ The Night Circus, and I had made a post a few days ago. So here is a partial dream cast I have in mind for The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

Audio listening time/pages: 10 hr

Total number of books I've read: 8

  1. Good job! I'm too tired to make another post now on my blog so I think it will be later... I like your choice.

  2. you done good!:) 15 minutes is a 5 star wow book?:) I have to go check it out now.

  3. Thanks for all your cheering. You really helped encourage me in my first read-a-thon!

  4. It was awesome meeting you this RAT and especially playing around in all the Goodreads threads—your enthusiasm and sass (not actually sure if this is the word I'm looking for, but 1) tired brain, and 2) it's a compliment, I promise!) really helped keep me going! Hopefully, next April, you have a much better Reese's treat to look forward to. ;-)

    Happy end of RAT!

  5. Looks like you had a great Readathon! Thanks for visiting me. BTW, I loved your Night Circus cast!

  6. Wow, you did great! And I totally know what you mean about not being able to focus during hour 23. I had switched to audio at that point.

  7. Eight books finished? Wow - great job! It sounds like you had fun, too. :)

From your Best Books minigame list: I loved Lock In, too. Have you read the (free) prequel novella, Unlocked? I have it downloaded but haven't read it yet. (It's at, here:

  8. You. Did. Amazing! Well done!!! I see what you mean about the cheerleading thing. Seems like maybe the system needs a kind of revamp in that department. I wonder if a kind of "buddy system" could be devised to pair us up in groups of 5-10 so that we can cheer each other without feeling like we're missing out on too much read time. And I agree with you, breaking up the posts works better. I did 4 hour blocks this time and that seemed to work for me.

  9. It seems like you did great and had a lot of fun. I hope you are now feeling well rested and back to normal :)
See you in the next read-a-thon
